The problem, at least in math, is the same one we have
when kids go on a cruise for a week or two and parents
want their homework...very few of the kids can do the work
without the instruction and some hands on help.

Maybe I could give them a worksheet from a year ago, but
if they already know it then it's just busy work. If they
don't know it then they can't do it right and you get them
practicing wrong -- which is worse than not practicing at
all.

I would rather see them reading and having to write a
report on what they read each day.
