Re: Does your building have an ISS program?

Teachers send kids with work and then pick it up after
school. But our ISS teacher has a free period when he's not
required to be there-- and students empty the folders during
this time. (I don't know who's there.. I just know I've never
heard of anyone having to sit in there and cover for him.)
This also means kids there earlier who did the work get
penalized because it got trashed. (Teachers forget to get to
the work as well.)
We also send them out with a paper and they roam the halls
rather than go to detention.. I also had a special ed
teacher "shelter" kids who I wrote up; they ran to her
instead of going to detention and she called me names for
writing them up.
We have to call all parents of kids we send there.. but
parents often can't be reaxhed and I (at exactly average)
send out 8 kids on a typical day. This is a diaster.. if you
are going to have ISS it needs to be well planned out.
When I was in school there was only for kids suspended by
prior arrangement--i.e. teachers did not send students there
during class.
If you got written up someone came to your class and asked
for you.. then you (escorted by the person-- student workers)
went to the office to talk to the principal. That worked
okay.. although students who were late to homeroom might miss
an hour of class by sitting there to get their lunch
detention assignment-- so they should have just sent people
to first periods to give kids their detention paper; kids
were late on purpose to get to sit in the office instead of
class for an hour. On 2/25/10, admin2b wrote:
