    Hi Sarah,

First meetings can be intimidating. Here are some of the
ideas I use to prepare for my first department meeting of the
year that may be of some help. I always begin with a welcome
back and then on to the congratulations. First I welcome any
new members to the department and a brief introduction as not
to put the new person on the spot. In a faculty meeting
setting, just an introduction and a welcome is sufficient.
There's always something to recognize in the department an
engagement, a marriage, a new home, a new baby - birthdays,
accomplishments, anniversaries etc. Once the congratulations
are complete, continue the meeting by talking about any new
happenings in the building. Before I get into the business
of the meeting I like to have a wrap up of the year before
and the vision for the year ahead. The most important thing
is to establish a positive tone and a relaxed atmosphere.
Promote the idea that the entire faculty is working together
as a team to educate children.

    I hope this helps.
