Re: Thinking about a move into administration
Posted by: Nevada Administrator on 7/16/10

Well...having a sense of humor helps! That way, when posts such as
the previous one come your way, you can deal with it :)> Those
same qualities you bring to your classroom now...humor, empathy,
patience, organization, decisiveness, etc. are the same you'll need
as an administrator. Also...the long hours are a reality. First
to arrive, last to leave. However, if you are interested in
building a supportive and innovative culture that would benefit
teachers and students and you have the drive, the enthusiasm and
the core belief that you CAN make a difference...then go for it!
Also...read, read, read every good book you can on administrative
styles...not just those in the teaching field either but from all
business fields. Some favorites..."Managing from the Heart" by
Bracy, Rosenblum, Sanford and Trueblood; "Love and Profit" by
Autry; and "Fierce Conversations" by Scott. Join administrative
organizations such as ASCD for up to date information and network
as much as possible with other administrators in your area. Best
    of luck to you!
