Post: Older Teacher Applicants
Posted by: Looking to relocate on 7/16/10
Hello. I am a male in my early 40s and am looking to apply
in a rural district at the elementary level. I have been
teaching for 16 years in grades 4-8, have good evals and
letters of recommendation. I am also proficient in
computers, as well as in Smart Board and Promethean
technology. My "specialty" is History, my discipline is
very good, and have served on numerous committees,
especially in the field of Social Studies.
The reason for my "older" age is because I joined the
military after high school, and I served for 4 years. While
in the service, I decided to go to college and be a
teacher. Once I graduated, it was hard to find a job in my
state (PA), so I subbed for 4 years, then moved south.
With the above stated, and in the present economic
conditions, would I still be a "marketable" employee? I
love the elementary level, but am looking at the middle
school level in the near future. Thanks for any insight you
may provide.
