Kathy,
If you honestly feel that you are working well with the
students you are tasked to serve for speech therapy and have
seen the principal go after other staff unfairly, then I would
not plan to return. Unless you live in some outpost, there is
a need for speech therapists in most parts of the country.
I would cut my losses and look for another job. It might take
time to find one, but in the mean time don't forget that Early
Intervention programs, hospitals or nursing homes could be in
great need of your skills - though I understand your first love
is children. Also, you might look for contract agencies again
if there is no opening in a school division close by in the
interim.
My youngest daughter had speech services for 8 years in school
and privately. Additionally my middle daughter is a PT who has
worked in a pediatric setting in a hospital, specialized day
school for students with disabilities, for a contractor and now
as a private worker at an early intervention program. Just
research your potential options in your area to be sure you can
work. She has seen folks get screwed by management in both
hospital as well as school setting.
