If you're looking to dumb down the students, less time to
teach is the way to go!

Carnegie Units, which is what class time used to be called,
has gone from one hour to 55 minutes to 45 minutes over the
    years.

Students spend less and less time on an academic task at all
    grade levels.

If you teach elementary school, put a stop watch (or some
other device that marks time and will accumulate the minutes)
to the time spent on academics in a school day. If you are in
a typical situation, it will come out to about 45 minutes.
The rest of the time is spent on moving about, getting out
materials, walking here and there, and so on.

    School is a time waster.
