Take a look at what female > business executives are wearing. As I said originally, I don't expect dresses(for women) every day but I firmly believe that dressing UP says you are willing to do what it takes and that you want to put your best foot forward for the interview. I also look for at least a tie on a male candidate, and a sport jacket or suit is even better. I am a principal in a relatively new school in an afluent area. I might see it differently if I were in a rural area, which is what the original poster asked. I wear suits/nylons/dresses because I am a professional business executive, just like the parents I deal with.
