Re: posting a job
Posted by Teacherguy on 5/12/08

This is clearly becoming an issue for many prospective teachers
seeking employment. However, the frustration of teaching positions
being filled before posting is just one problem. I have had
principals tell me the positions were already filled internally.
Internally is the key word. Outside applicants aren't having much
luck. In my neck of the woods districts only hire subs, aides, and
    student teachers.

    To morality,

I don't think the remarks made indicated entitlement as much as it
expressed a bit of frustration at the real scope of the problem.
Principals have a lot on their plate and can only hire so many
people. We don't live in a perfect world where everyone can be
hired. I do know that many teacher applicants are frustrated. This
is especially true of male applicants who never get interviewed
despite the need for them. Much as I try to try to give people the
benefit of the doubt, when the last principal told me he already
filled the position internally but he had to post it, my only thought
was, "He knew who he wanted a long time ago, and never bothered to
look at the outside applicants." I am experienced in this grade level
and can teach it in my sleep. I just feel like I should have been
given a chance. That's my take on the situation. At this point, I'd
be flattered to get an interview.
