The campus improvement committee can deal with discipline
issues. Ours does - we really only have one true "staff"
committee, other than a few specialized committees (safety,
technology) that include parent and community members in
    addition to staff.
Any committee needs to set clear goals and work toward them -
it needs to NOT be a gripe session - keep the focus on the
goal, and make sure that the goal is to find a solution.
Turn a "gripe session" into a brainstorming session to
identify issues - the group might come up with a list of
problems ("gripes" but don't call them that) which are
written down on chart paper, then prioritize those issues as
a group, and brainstorm solutions to the problem that is
given the highest priority. It will be a slow process. Our
staff committee has worked on the same issue for the past
three months (staff identified it as a top priority from a
longer list of issues back in February), but although it's
been a slow process, it's been productive.
