Post: Update: Am I fit to teach?

Posted by questioning on 5/10/08

Some of you long term posters may recall that I posted a
thread last fall about the status of my job. I had verbally
reprimanded a kid in a grocery store, and the parent of the
kid also got involved, as this child was acting very
inappropriately in a public setting. Being a non-tenured
high school teacher, I had posted on here seeking advice,
since this incident became a rather controversial topic in
our fairly small community. My behavior was a bit over the
    top to say the least.

Since many posters asked for updates, I figured I would let
you know that I was not offered a contract for the 2008-2009
school year. My classroom observations have all been
nothing but stellar, and I've built good relations as a
coach, but no specific reason was given for the dismissal.
I was actually notified about six weeks ago.

I've been lurking on the boards for quite some time, and
I've learned quite a bit. Thanks again to all for the
advice. It's looking as if my career in education is over
for the time being, as I've submitted dozens of applications
and have yet to receive one phone call.

The humbling reality has been that your personal life can
get you fired and blacklisted from education all together,
so I would pass that warning on to other teachers.
