Okay, I'll give this a try... there isn't going to be
one "standard" definition for this. It means that your
strengths and/or goals or how you present yourself are a
good match for the school's current needs. It's the reason
why it's so important to learn what you can about the school
prior to the interview. Know what their strengths,
challenges, and goals are and show them how your
qualifications will support those strengths, help them
overcome the challenges, and help them meet the goals.
If you learn that the school is just starting to implement
professional learning communities and you have experience
with PLC, mention it. If you learn that the school has a
high ELL population, talk about strategies for teaching that
population. If you see that they have low math scores and
your strength is teaching math, give examples that show how
you're a phenomenal math teacher. Etc. Sometimes it may be
things you don't know about - it might be that your
personality and strengths are perceived to be a good match
with - or good counter-balance to - the personalities and
strengths of the other teachers on the grade level team.
It's those things they look at when there are several
qualified candidates who interview well - they can't hire
everyone, so other factors come into play. Know the school
as well as you can before the interview.
