Re: Advice for first teaching job interview?
    Posted by astrosfan on 8/07/08

Be positive, enthusiastic, and excited at this opportunity.
Acknowledge your lack of experience up front and explain how
you are looking forward to learning from others. Ask if you
can have a schedule of teachers to go watch and ask if
administration will come in to give you feedback. Also, ask
if there is any professional development that you can attend
immediately. Ask to meet team members. Be proactive in your
willingness to learn. They know what the situation is and
they have already thought about these things. However, if
you ask before they tell you, then they know that you
realize that you have a lot to learn. I am not impressed
    when an applicant is clueless.

Also, I would think about what professional experiences you
have had previously and how these would help in a teaching
situation. Are you a hard worker? Tell how you were in the
past. Do you accept help from others? Are you a team
player? Are you realistic about this job? Do you have data
and information from this school? This info could be good
if they give you what are your strengths and weaknesses
    question.

In addition, ask about what help they can give you. Is
there a team leader? Curriculum coordinator? A discipline
person? Find out what support systems that the
campus/district has in place for new teachers. Will you
have a mentor? What exactly is his/her responsibility?

I know this is vague, but without knowing where you are, it
is difficult to know what you will be up against.

    Good luck! Let us know....
