In the hundreds of interviews I've sat through in my years I've heard few
original answers to questions. If the candidate is a beginning teacher the
answers will not be as thorough or laced with education language. A more
experienced teacher gives more nuance. But I understand the difference between
an experienced teacher and a beginner. So, as I listen, I'm listening for
attitude, for regard for kids, for a willingness to be part of a team, for a
passion for education. The questions a candidate asks tell me the same things.
My successful candidate has learned as much as possible about my building,
about the culture of the building. "How much" "How many" and "How do you" are
questions that reflect traits I'm not particularly interested in having work
with me. Lynne earlier gave some great ways to get information while at the
same time creating an impression of collegiality.

Hiring is the most important job I have as a principal. Hire the wrong person
and I've created a headache for kids, my staff, and myself.

Finally, after about the third or fourth interview question I can fairly
accurately predict the question or questions the candidate will ask. The
questions usually serve as an affirmation of everything that went on before in
    the interview
