    Post: help with violent child

Posted by stressed out on 10/04/08

I am a K teacher and I have a boy who is physically
abusive to the other child. He has choked a girl, pulled
hair, slapped one in the face, stomped on feet, pushes,
    pinches etc...

I remove from the group but then he gets mad at me and
hits me. I have talked to his mom (no dad) who says he is
like that at home and admits she can not deal with it. She
is very very young and has no other support.

I called for an immediate meeting. My social worker called
the mom and offered her our county's services. Mom said
the preschool (they kicked him out I found out) said he
was probably ADHD. Mom does not deny that but does not
have insurance. The SW gave her names of doctors that can
help but Mom was not eager to do anything about it.

My principal told me to just keep documenting everything.
I asked for testing and he said," for what? He is only 5
and has been in school for a month? Under RtI we have to
do blah blah blah before testing.. and you are not
concerned with academics at this time" ( he is average for
    academics.)

I asked about the issue about hitting others. Do I have to
wait until he seriously hurts someone? and why I do have
    to tolerate him slapping me?

Parents have not complained yet. These kids are not
telling their parents since so many of them do not speak
    English.

    help!
