    It takes time to pass between classes. So more time is wasted
    just passing. 7 passes x 5 min = 35 minutes for passing. If
    you did 7 passes x 4 min = 28 minutes.

    You have to take roll and get things ready and then clean up
    and end the period, more time taken from instruction.

    I have seen schools call lunch a period and they had two
    lunches so that was two periods. Leaving six classes.

    This could increase the length of the school day.

    Maybe they are adding some elective classes, study hall, PE
    or club activities or sports.

    How would Prep periods be assigned and would there be enough
    teachers to cover absent teachers when there are not enough
    substitutes?
