NC law gives the principal the sole right to place students. I don't
know who loves the law more - the principals or the superintendent. A
parent calls him and complains, he simply tells them "My hands are
tied."
I did away with parent requests two years ago. I have a 'parent info
sheet' that they can fill out describing how their child learns best
and what kind of teacher they would like. They are not allowed to put
a teacher's name on the form. This way, I give the parents input, but
still ensure the classes are balanced.
